Eminem’s Compulsive Workout Routine

It helped him lose close to 90 pounds

When rapper Eminem found himself in the hospital after overdosing on prescription pain pills, he knew it was time for a lifestyle change.

By switching his addiction from drugs to exercise, Eminem went from 230 pounds to 149 pounds. Even with a busy schedule, the rapper found time to run about 16 miles a day!

His advice to others? Stick to a workout schedule so you don’t lose the motivation and all your progress. Since getting injured from overtraining, Eminem has switched up his workout routine and has enjoyed great results.

Eminem is a pretty fit dude — for a while, he was even attached to star in Antoine Fuqua’s new boxing movie Southpaw. So how does Eminem stay a pretty fit dude? By working out compulsively. And in a new article on Men’s Journal, the rapper details his compulsive exercise regimen. “In the early days,” he says, “I jut went with the flow: If I could hit a gym, I’d hit up a gym. If someone suggested a workout that seemed legit, I might try it, but it wasn’t a priority. Everything has to work around the music.” And whenever he worked out with Dre, he “had to lift the kiddie weights.” He started getting into exercise more seriously in the aftermath of his prescription pill addiction:

…………………I overdosed on pills, and I went into the hospital. I was close to 230 pounds. I’m not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas. The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I’d been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating — and eating badly. When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober…It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise………………………
